We had the pleasure of welcoming Hallie and her mum Louise into the Connect Vending office this afternoon to collect their donations!
Hallie's Fundraiser
Stuart and Elyas Coutts today presented £1,000 to help purchase an electric wheelchair for Hallie, handing over a cheque and hamper of treats as a fundraising raffle prize!
Louise is raising funds for a power chair with mid-wheel drive for Hallie, who has been diagnosed with right sided pulmonary hypoplasia and mediastinal shift, along with early onset scoliosis and pulmonary hypertension. Hallie is currently on oxygen therapy 24 hours per day and uses a bi pap machine at night. This type of wheelchair is necessary to provide enough stability to carry the oxygen tanks she needs.
Due to the pulmonary hypertension, Hallie’s heart rate cannot go above 120bpm, as her body cannot maintain its oxygen saturation levels. It is therefore impossible for her to propel herself around without assistance in her manual wheelchair, provided by the NHS.
Maintaining Hallie's independence
Prior to January 2024, Hallie took part in dance classes, gymnastics and roller-skating lessons, until she became short of breath to the point where she could no longer attend. Her hobbies now include making little crochet animals and spending time with her mum and dog, Remi. ????
It’s important for Hallie to maintain as much independence as she can, be able to get out and about without assistance and spend time with her friends.
