First Aid Vending Machines.

Vending machines are the heart of our operations so it comes as no surprise for us to constantly keep a close eye on new innovations in the vending machine world even if they are not within the food and beverage sector.

One recent development that really caught our attention. A First aid Vending machine developed by a 14-year-old boy named Taylor Rosenthal. Taylor, who hails from Alabama, just turned down a £20 million offer from a national healthcare company for his amazing vending machine idea that dispenses first aid kits.

‘Every time I’d travel for a baseball tournament in Alabama, I’d notice that kids would get hurt and parents couldn’t find a band aid. I wanted to solve that.’ said Taylor

So he did. He launched his start-up and called it RecMed. The vending machine offers customers a variety of products including pre-packaged first aid kits ranging from £4 to £11. You’ll also be able to find plasters, rubber gloves, antiseptic wipes and gauze pads on sale.

And the decision to reject the lucrative offer? Taylor has decided to at it alone with the help of angel investors, RecMed already has an order from Six Flags for 100 machines. The company is hoping to debut its machines this fall, in high-traffic areas for kids – including amusement parks, beaches, and stadiums. Each machine costs $5,500 a piece. The company will also make money through restocking fees to keep the machines filled with inventory. Rosenthal is also considering putting advertisements on the machines to make them more profitable.

We are amazed at the ingenuity of the first aid vending solution but at the same time a little gobsmacked as to why such an idea has only been introduced now?? I mean we live in a world where one can vend a fresh pair of sneakers or a mobile phone. So something as basic as a set of plasters at a sports club for instant purchase would make so much sense and yet it took a 14-year-old schoolboy to notice the gap in the market and take it all the way to even Patent this idea.
